3 Tips to Make the Most of Your Summer Workouts

by | Fitness

Summer is here and you want an efficient and effective sweat sesh! Summer is a time when schedules change, routines are off, and travel is happening! I’m often asked about the best way to stay active during the busy summer season, and how to make the most of summer workouts. Many of you worry about “falling off the wagon” or “getting off track” but that’s all-or-nothing thinking, and you know how we feel about that around here…
You know the first thing I’m going to say is to be where you are today. Enjoy the time off, make the most of your vacations, and remember that rest and relaxation is a vital part of your health journey. Taking a week or two off from regular workouts isn’t going to sabotage your progress or set you back in your workouts. Give yourself the grace to sleep in, relax, and enjoy family time and outings with friends.
I’m also want to encourage you to find new ways to show up and keep moving, even if it looks different than your normal exercise schedule. Sometimes having time off or traveling in the summer means we have more time to get active. That’s a perfect time to try something new, or add a little extra when you can!

Here are 3 quick tips to make the most of your summer workouts:

1. Move when you can, how you can.

Try to keep your regular workout routine when it’s feasible. But if you find yourself with a different schedule, remember to give yourself grace and do what you can. My 10 Minute Quick HIITs can give you a a short full body workout! And doing half the scheduled workout still counts! Even doing a quick set of squats, planks and pushups can give you a quick energy boost and help maintain your strength and endurance.

2. Get outside!
Take advantage of warmer weather and go for a run, walk or hike. Or gather with friends and family for outdoor games or even tag with the kids. You may be surprised at all the ways to get moving and enjoy the great outdoors! Be where you are today—literally!
3. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
As Vivian discussed last week, there are a few simple ways to determine your individual water needs, however, remember hot temperatures mean our body needs more fluids, especially when it comes to working out. Don’t forget to pre-hydrate with water before your workout, replenish fluids post exercise, and keep hydrating throughout the day.
The bottom line: summer is a fun, exciting time to be enjoyed with family and friends! Our SummerFit challenge is designed to help you keep moving, and jump right back in if you miss a day or week. This journey is about long term health, and continuing to show up for ourselves and those we love.
Show up, keep moving!

Woohoo! Thanks for the reminder Amy! Now I don’t feel so guilty for taking a few days off for vacation/being with my family. Thank you!

Thanks for all the reminders. Last week I missed a whole week of sweat. I was in panic mode. On the flip side I did hours of gardening and played 3 games of golf walking 18 holes. Then we were at the lake and finished the gardening.

Now the gardening is done, just need to water and weed. Today is Monday and I can start my week with Sweat 3.
