I’m a trainer: These are the fitness items I can’t live without

by | Fitness

If you know me, you know that I will always remind you that you don’t need any equipment to exercise— you can get moving at home with nothing at all! I’ve built a business reminding you to be where you are today and move in a way that works for you— whether you have equipment or not!
While I completely believe that is true, I do have some tried-and-true pieces of equipment that I love and recommend for your home gym, and I’m sharing them with you today! If you don’t have the space or budget for equipment, there are still so many ways to get moving with my No Equipment Workouts, but if you’re looking to upgrade or add to your home gym space, my latest blog includes many of my favorites!
*Please note: some of these include Affiliate Links, meaning I get a small commission if you purchase through my link. I’ve also included my exclusive discount codes. With Amazon Prime Day coming up this week, some things are on sale! Of course, you can find these items many different places, like your local sports store or often resale groups.

1. Dumbbells!

I know it seems obvious as it’s the most popular form of home fitness equipment out there, but with so many options, I know it’s hard to know what you need! I’m a big fan of my Hex Dumbbells and I recommend having a few different sets so you can scale up or down as needed. If you’re following my workouts, you know we alternate between back-to-basics, compound movements, and longer muscle endurance sets, so having a few different options to choose from is helpful. While you don’t see them as often in my videos, I’m also a big fan of the Bowflex adjustable dumbbells and use them in my personal workouts, so you can get one set but have multiple options of weights. You can’t go wrong with dumbbells!

2. Mat

Another thing that seems obvious and an inexpensive tool most of us have for our workouts. You can, of course, just use a comfortable space on your floor or carpet or lay out a towel, but a good mat makes your movement and mat work more accessible and comfortable. If you’ve followed my workouts for a while, you’ve seen my extra large Yo Gorilla Mat in most of my videos, I love having a large mat I can perform all my standing movements on, then jump right down for core work. Many of you have told me you hide your Yo Gorilla Mat under a rug or in your basement or garage. While it’s a more significant investment, it gives you many options. And, I have a discount!
If a larger mat isn’t right for you, finding a good portable fitness mat you can move between spaces is a great option.

3. Kettlebells

My favorite fitness tool? It’s hard to say since I love all things fitness, but I am obsessed with kettlebells. Of course, you can always use a dumbbell for kettlebell exercises, but having a kettlebell (or two, or three) to swing, lift, and snatch will not only make you stronger, it’ll make you feel powerful. I recommend getting a cast iron option just for ease of movement and longevity.

4. Mini Loop Bands

Can you feel the burn?  Mini loop bands are the best for adding that extra burn while also being a great tool for flexibility and mobility. They’re lightweight and portable for travel. I love Hope Fitness Gear for well-made bands made by a company that gives back but check out the deals below for other options.

5. TRX:

Have you tried Suspension training? Maybe that’s how you found my workouts, or perhaps you’ve never tried TRX, but I can’t say enough good things about this fitness modality. TRX is another option that takes up little space but gives you many options for exercising and increasing weight and intensity.  If it’s within your budget, suspension training can give you multiple options to strengthen while keeping it fun and different.

6. Foam Roller

Recovery is having a moment, and foam rolling is right there with it. Whether you need trigger point specifics of a general full body Rolling Session, foam rollers are a great way to release tension, recover well, and feel better overall.

7. Mini Pilates Ball

Are you looking to target your deep core and pelvic floor? Good, because we all should! The mini pilates ball helps us create internal resistance to engage our deepest abdominal muscles and activate our pelvic floor, creating stability and strength throughout our entire core. I love this mini ball to add burn to our dead bugs, planks, and hovers.
I love fitness, which means I love most fitness equipment! The bottom line is, if it gets you moving and, more importantly, gets you excited about moving, it’s worth the investment! You can get a full-body workout with just your own body, but if you want to keep it different and fun, these tools can help!
Of course, check out my YouTube channel for workouts with each of these and my Full Amazon Storefront for more of my favs!
