It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of getting time-efficient, effective workouts in the comfort of my home. I’ve made a career out of it! As a mom of two running my own business, I know how tough it can be to find the time to exercise, let alone head to a gym or studio. I’m all about making workouts accessible, time-efficient, and stress-free.
You don’t need fancy equipment to get a great workout; you can do it with just your body weight or the weights you have at home. But if you know me, you know I also love finding ways to bring the gym experience, and gym equipment, to your home workout space, without breaking the budget or taking up all the space.
Enter the TRX Suspension Trainer. If you’ve visited my YouTube channel before, you know this is a piece of equipment I adore and use often. From taking my first TRX class probably 15 years ago to buying my first Suspension Trainer for home shortly after (that is still holding up so many years later!), to teaching TRX in past gyms, to making TRX workouts for my audience, the TRX Suspension Trainer is one of my favorite ways to get the boutique fitness experience, right from your living room or garage or basement.
What do I love about the TRX?
*It has a small footprint. You can fit an entire gym’s worth of equipment in a bag smaller than my purse. It can be hung over a door, from a ceiling mount, or even outside with a sturdy tree or post. I frequently pop it into my suitcase for travel or take it to the park to get a quick workout in while my kids are playing.
*It’s all about the core. I say it all the time: all of our movement begins and ends with our core muscles, and training our core is about so much more than working our abs. By incorporating both balance and suspension, the TRX Suspension Trainer keeps our core muscles working the entire time for stabilization, working the deepest core muscles and pelvic floor, even when doing an upper or lower body-specific exercise.
* It’s easily adjustable for all fitness levels. As a personal trainer, I often introduce TRX to beginner clients because it allows us to adjust the difficulty level seamlessly without switching equipment. By simply moving your feet, adjusting the suspension angle, or altering the range of motion, you can tailor your workout to your fitness level and progress at your own pace, sparking excitement for the potential progress.
*It’s a safe, non-intimidating way to train for balance. We all need to train for balance and coordination, but for some populations, like seniors or pregnant individuals, single-leg or traditional balance movements present added risk. With TRX, we can incorporate single-sided exercises and balance training with the added stability of holding the straps, making it both challenging and accessible.
*You can always “Go heavier” without needing to purchase more weights. A quick shift in position on the Suspension Trainer can make a big difference for the exercise. You can get the effect of increasing weights by 10, 20, or 30 pounds just by changing angles, switching to a single arm or leg, or adding isometric holds to your repetitions. A suspension trainer is an incredible tool for getting stronger without needing a full rack of weights or a boutique studio class.
*It challenges me. Every. Single. Time. If you’ve tried it, you know what I mean! TRX Suspension Training has been a regular part of my fitness routine for years, yet I never get bored, and I’m always challenged by it.
The best part is, there’s an app that will walk you through the whole Suspension Training process, from setting up, to working out, to cooling down. You can filter workouts by length, difficulty, target body area, and more, and the variety is incredible. There’s strength training, pilates, cardio, even sport-specific programs that’ll fix your golf swing or level up your pickleball game.
If you’re ready to try Suspension Training, I recommend the TRX Home2 Starter Bundle. It’s everything you need to get started: the super lightweight Home2 Suspension Trainer, plus a one year subscription to the TRX App. With bundle savings, you’re basically getting 10 months of free training on the TRX App.
